Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we gather, make, learn and be, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We recognise their continuing connection to land, water, and community.

A provocation and invitation

Everything presented here is both provocation and invitation—to imagine how we might craft flourishing futures together.

A living network for planetary transformation

WISDOM Protocol

Like nature's networks of roots or rivers, we grow through interconnected layers of collaboration.

A protocol proposition

How might we collectively craft the digital fabric and social infrastructure to help transform into a planetary scale regenerative civilisation?

We have some ideas...

What is espoused here is a vision of a living infrastructure that may support the emergence of a planetary-scale regenerative civilisation on Spaceship Earth.

Circles: seeds of radicle change

Like seeds containing the potential for mighty trees, circles are the foundational forces of transformation. They come in two vital forms:

Hyper-local circles

Intimate groups of 3-7 people who:

  • Build deep relational trust through regular gathering
  • Address tangible local challenges through direct action
  • Learn through cycles of prototyping and reflection
  • Create ripples of change that inspire others
  • Root their work in place and community

Steward circles

Wisdom-keeping groups of 5-9 experienced practitioners who:

  • Nurture the conditions for growth of new circles
  • Safeguard the integrity of our shared principles
  • Help navigate complexity and challenge
  • Weave connections across the network
  • Support the protocol's evolution through lived experience

Like healthy cells in living tissue, each circle maintains its unique identity while contributing to the health of the whole system.

CLANs: Weaving the web

Community Learning and Action Networks (CLANs) are like mycelial networks, creating living bridges between circles and amplifying their impact through collaboration.

Core functions

  • Connect circles working on related challenges
  • Pool resources, knowledge, and capabilities
  • Scale successful prototypes across communities
  • Bridge different ways of knowing and doing
  • Foster bioregional understanding and action

Key participants

  • Active circles ready for broader collaboration
  • Community focused organisations and institutions
  • Traditional knowledge keepers and local experts
  • Other CLANs sharing common bioregional challenges
  • Steward circles providing guidance and support

CLANs operate like nature's resource distribution networks, ensuring that nutrients (knowledge, resources, support) flow where they're needed most while preserving local autonomy and diversity.

Rhiozomes: living systems at scale

Named after the horizontal stem systems that help plants spread and regenerate, Rhiozomes connect CLANs into bioregional networks capable of larger-scale regeneration.

Vital functions

  • Coordinate action across watersheds and ecosystems
  • Bridge local wisdom with planetary needs
  • Enable polycentric self-governance
  • Facilitate fair resource distribution
  • Track collective impact and learning

Essential elements

  • Networks of collaborating CLANs
  • Environmental sensing and feedback systems
  • Shared resource pools and redistribution mechanisms
  • Living Labs infrastructure for data informed decision-making
  • Transparent governance and decision-making protocols
  • Impact tracking and reporting tools
  • Knowledge commons and learning exchanges
  • Cross-bioregional coordination channels

Like river systems connecting diverse watersheds, Rhiozomes help local actions flow into coherent planetary transformation while respecting the unique character of each place.

WISDOM infrastructure: nature's wisdom made visible through us

Living phygital infrastructure

WISDOM (Wiser Innovation Symbiotically Designed with Organismal Mutualism) is a living network of circles, CLANs, and Rhiozomes working together through a set of shared protocols, practices and phygital (digital and physical) social infrastructure.

Digital fabric

  • Governance tokens enabling quadratic decision-making
  • Social tokens recognising regenerative contributions
  • Shared knowledge gardens for collective learning
  • Environmental sensing networks tracking impact
  • Private and secure communication and data storage
  • Living Labs and open data commons
  • Permeable boundaries for open governance
  • Open-source technology for distributed collaboration

Social architecture

  • Polycentric governance frameworks
  • Fair resource distribution systems
  • Conflict transformation processes
  • Continuous learning protocols
  • Impact verification and attribution mechanisms
  • Near-realtime feedback loops
  • Crafting literacy and capacity building
  • Repurposing place-based infrastructure

Collective intelligence

The WISDOM Protocol functions like nature's signaling systems—helping the network:

  • Build trust through transparent verification
  • Make decisions through collective intelligence
  • Share resources through reciprocal exchange
  • Learn and adapt through rapid feedback
  • Scale impact while maintaining integrity
